Many LAAF-Wisconsin, Inc. members have asked about how they can organize and host social events for member families.
In response, we've decided to add this page of frequenty asked questions about planning and hosting events.
How can I host an event if my house is too small?
Think about holding the event outside or at a local park.
Consider hosting an event at the zoo, children’s museum, or play facility.
Should I be worried that too many people will show up?
Most events are easily manageable in that not everyone in the membership attends all events.
For example, an at-home playgroup may generate 10 families on average.
A mom’s night out may generate around 8 moms.
What if I planned to host an event and I cannot at the last minute?
Ask someone to co-host an event or take over hosting the event.
For example, you’ve planned to meet at a local park.
Ask someone who is planning to attend to host in your place.
If you absolutely cannot hold the event anymore, please try to contact the Social Committee or Secretary.
If the timing is extremely late, you should post it to the listserv and also contact the families that RSVP’d.
What time and date should I host?
Plan your event according to your convenience. Members that are available will attend.
How can I host if I don’t know anyone?
Hosting is the perfect way to get to know other members in your area.
You might live a few blocks from someone and not even know it until you host an event!
What should I serve at an event?
Since you are host, you can decide what to serve.
You may want to keep it simple with cookies and juice, or go all out and have a pizza party.
Asking guests to bring a dish to pass would be fun at a cookout.
I can’t think of any event ideas. What do you recommend?
Popular events are at home playgroups, park playgroups, or trips to local facilities such as museums, zoos, beaches, restaurants, indoor gyms, holiday events, and adult nights out.
My kids are older. How do I find events for them?
Think about what your kids are interested in and consider hosting a get together with kids in their age group.
Your event could be promoted as 7-12 years old, or a teens gathering.
Bowling, swimming, rollerskating or the movies may be good event options.
If I decide to host an event, who do I contact? Do I have to promote my own event?
You can contact the Social Committee or Secretary.
We can help guide you through the process and can tell you what information we will need.
We will post your event for you in our newsletter and publish it to the email listserv as well.
Emails get sent approximately 3 weeks out from the event, and another reminder sent closer to the RSVP date depending on the event.
There is already a local adoptive playgroup in my area. Why would I want to host my event through LAAF?
We hope that by hosting through LAAF, you will make other families in your area aware of events.
We also hope that our hosts can reach more people and inform them about LAAF through our activities.
